A Charleston man is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond after police say he fired shots at his neighbor, and responding officers in Kanawa County on Friday.

Police say that Chase Jeffrey Nelson, 32, of Charleston, fired at his neighbor, Gilbert Schoolcraft, with a handgun at about 11 a.m. near their homes along Coonskin Drive.

according to a criminal complaint filed with the Kanawha County Magistrates Court, when approaching the home, deputies heard the words “Bring it on bitches” and were met with at least 2 shots. The fired shots pinned the officers behind a building until an armored vehicle was brought to the scene to safely remove the deputies. The Sheriff’s office said that the officers did not return fire.

Nelson initially remained in a home, but eventually was taken into custody without incident after complying with orders to surrender.

Law enforcement searched the home and said no one else was inside. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Nelson is facing three felony charges of endangerment involving a firearm
